Hi there,
My husband and I have the travel bug. We are considering booking a trip to Munich for next fall. Our son will be 1 year old. We don’t know what he’ll be like at this age and how stressful this experience could be. He seems to be a pretty mellow, content kid so far (he’s 3 months old and is sleeping through the night). But we dread being the parents of a screaming kid on an international flight. I’d appreciate any advice or insight experienced moms & dads have to offer. Thanks!
It’s getting harder and harder to use airmiles these days, as the most popular routes and time periods for family travel seem to always be booked before we ever get a chance to even think about our next family vacation.
If you are hoping to use airmiles to travel next Christmas/New Years, now is the time to book your trip. You can book 11 months out for most trips, so get started! Places like Europe, Hawaii, and the Caribbean go first.
If you are lucky enough to be able to travel during off peak periods, you can often find flights much more last minute.
I just ran into a friend of mine who has a 2 and a 3 year old and she asked me where I most enjoyed going on vacation when my children were toddlers. I found toddlers to be the most challenging of all ages to travel with. But in the summer, the beach had no match when it came to vacationing with toddlers. We found a beach on a lake, river or ocean was the absolute best, and searched for the calmest beaches we could find. We booked our lodging as close as possible to the water. When it was expensive, we cut down on the number of days we spent on vacation, finding that it was better to have fewer days closer to the water than to have to schlep with all of our gear back and forth to get a lower price.
The kids were happy with a few sand toys — and they often were very simple, like yogurt containers, plastic spoons and little cars, small buckets and shovels. We always brought a beach umbrella and set up our headquarters right at the edge of the water. It was one of the most relaxing vacations we spent when the kids were these ages. My husband and i would take turns watching the kids — one of us would read or relax or sleep while the other kept an eye on the children. They usually amused themselves and each other without too much interaction from us. We always bought a few cheap shells and buried them in the sand to have treasure hunts while we were there, which was lots of fun.
In winter, we went to ski resorts that had children’s programs for toddlers. It gave us a break and the kids had a ball. As they got older they learned to ski and now we all ski/snowboard together.
I will be traveling on the third week of February to visit some relatives. They informed me that they will be asking me to take back some gifts that were already gift-wrapped that they intend to give to their friends back home. They were going to use the post but since I will be visiting, they figured it would be cheaper if I would just bring them home since I always travel light and there’s no chance that I’d be exceeding my baggage limit.
My question is that can I check in these gift-wrapped items or would the airport security still open them even if they have passed through the xray machines? I’ll probably advise them to just remove the wrapping but they are already wrapped and I was just wondering in case this is possible so that they won’t have to unwrap them and all. The place I’ll be visiting is Hong Kong. I couldn’t find anything on their website about gift-wrapped items, only a list of items not allowed in the airport and gift-wrapped items are not part of their list.
Hi everybody, I am going on a business trip to Montreal and would like to know the choices of staying there. The expenses will be considered by the company and I have the option of deciding a place there. The thing is that I would like to have something different than the usual hotel stuff; I would be seeking advice on other places that are luxurious and comfortable too.
I am interested in skiing in Tahoe but need more affordable lodging. Does anyone know anything about staying in Carson City? Is it a hard drive? Should I stay in Carson City?
Anyone have experience with traveling from Spain to the United States with a pet rabbit? I understand that only a couple of airlines allow rabbits to travel in the passenger part of the plane. My son has a friend studying in Barcelona who just bought a rabbit and wants to take it home with her.
Just before you leave to travel abroad, scan your passport and the credit card and debit card information for the cards you plan to take and email them to yourself. That way if you have your wallet or purse stolen you can access the information very quickly to take care of canceling the cards and getting a new passport.
